Ingredients

For the yeast cake

  • 50 grams fresh yeast
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • tbsp flour

For the batter:

  • 1 kg flour
  • 6 yolks
  •  ½ l milk
  • 300 grams sugar
  • 200 grams butter
  • 50 ml oil
  • lemon peel
  • 4 vials rum essence
  • 4 vials vanilla essence 

For the filling:

  • raisins
  • poppy seed
  • 300 grams grounded nuts
  • 20 grams butter
  • 2 tbsp cocoa
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 5 tbsp milk

Directions for Sweet cake with cocoa, nuts and poppy seeds filling

Step 1: You make the yeast cake from the yeast, 2 tablespoons of milk, a teaspoon of sugar and a tablespoon of flour. After mixing the ingredients, let the yeast grow.

Step 2: Boil the milk with sugar and lemon peel. After the yeast got fluffy, put the sifted flour in a deep bowl and add hot milk, little by little and mix.

Step 3: Add the yolks mixed well with salt, then the melted butter and oil (both of them must be warm, but not hot).

Step 4:  Add the yeast cake to this composition, mix, then add the essences, mix again, sprinkle some flour, covor it with a towel and let it grow in a warm place.

Step 5: For the cream, put the milk to boil with butter, cocoa, nuts, poppy seeds and raisins (that had been previously soaked in milk to get moist).

Step 6: After the batter increased its size, divide it into four equal pieces (first in two, then again in two). Take one piece, stretch it, put a thin layer of oil over it and then add cream. Repeat the operation with another piece of batter and then braid them.

Step 7: Put them in the rectangular griddle, over cooking paper. Using a soft brush, cover the cake with a layer of mixed yolk, then sprinkle sugar over it. Leave it in the oven for 45-50 minutes, according to your oven. If your not sure if it’s cooked, try it with a toothpick.
