Along with the cabbage rolls, the filled paprika is another popular dish in Romania. The recipe can be either vegetarian, with mushrooms for example, or with different kinds of meat. It's best served with sour cream and warm "mamaliga".


  • one chicken breast
  • 2 legs of chicken
  • one onion
  • one small carrot
  • a handful of rice
  • fresh dill and parsley
  • one egg
  • a few paprika
  • a few squashes
  • 2 tomatoes
  • a can of tomatoes
  • salt and pepper

Directions for Paprika with rice and meat

Step 1: Wash the chicken meat, cut it into cubes and use the mixer to turn it into a smooth paste and put it in a bowl. Afterwards, replace the blade of the mixer with the grater and chop the onion and carrot. Add the washed rice to the meat, the egg, the chopped greens, salt and pepper and mix it all well with the hand.

Step 2: Wsh the paprika, remove their seeds and fill them with meat. You can also use the meat mixture to fill tomatoes with it. Cut the squashes in half, remove their core and fill them also with meat. You can cover the paprika with tops of tomatoes.

Step 3: Place the paprika in a deep iena pot, chop the remaining tomatoes into small cubes and put them around the paprika. Add the chopped canned tomatoes, a cup of water, spices and then cover the pot and put it in the oven for about an hour. In the end, put one tablespoon of white flour into a little cold water and add it in the sauce left by the paprika in the pot. Turn off the fire and let it simmer for another 15 minutes in the oven.

When serving, add fresh dill and sour cream. Enjoy!
