  • dry yeast
  • salt
  • olive oil
  • egg

Directions for Bread basket for the Easter eggs

Step 1: Sift the flour and mix it with the yeast, then add the water little by little. In the end add the salt and mix it well with a bit of oil, until it’s entirely absorbed, then keep it in a warm place, covered, until it increases its size.

Step 2: In the meantime, place kitchen plastic foil over a round pot, that will be placed faced down in a cooking tray. When the batter doubled its size, divide it in 11 equal parts of around 100 grams each.

Step 3: Take 8 pieces and turn them into long batter strings, thick as a finger and cross them over the bottom of the pot like you see in the pictures. Turn the other three pieces into long strings, but place them horizontally, braiding them with the others.

Step 4: Afterwards, cut the extra batter away, divide it into 3, the turn it into long strings and braid them to create a margin for the basket. Anoint it with the mixed egg and place it in the oven at 180 degrees until it gets a nice color, the take it from the oven, let it cool off, then remove it from the pot and place it once again in the oven to cook it on the inside as well.

Step 5: In order to keep it straight, when you take it out from the oven and you cook it again, put on its bottom a piece of aluminum foil and a pot to keep the bottom straight. Cook it for 15-20 minutes, then remove the pot and the foil and let it a few minutes. Enjoy!
